Private Dance Classes vs Group Lessons: Which Should I Choose?

A Balance Between Group and Private Dance Lessons: The Arthur Murray Philosophy

At Arthur Murray, all of our dance programs are based around a balanced mix of private lessons, group lessons and social dance occasions. Private dance classes will make up the bulk of your tuition; group lessons occur occasionally to help you pick up tips from your fellow students and connect with the wider dancing community, and social dancing occasions are there for you to let loose with your newfound steps, swings, stomps, sways and spins!

Will Private Dance Classes Be Best for Me?

The mix of private and group dancing lessons is carefully structured at Arthur Murray. Today we look at the benefits of keeping private dance lessons as the core of your experience, and how the group classes and social events build a balanced structure around that core.

One-to-one attention: In private dance lessons, if you make a mistake it is immediately corrected. You are never left to fumble on your own, nor do you feel that others are missing out if you ask for help.

Faster learning: If you want to learn to dance for a particular occasion, private dance lessons offer the fastest way to do so.

Fine tuning: If you are already an intermediate or experienced dancer, you just won't get the fine tuning you need in a group lesson.

Confidence: Many of our students need the privacy of one-to-one dance lessons in order to let go of inhibitions and truly focus on learning.

Why Do We Incorporate Group Lessons Into the Programs?

Group lessons still have much to add to the core of private dance lessons, including:

  • The opportunity for you to learn from other students' perspectives
  • The opportunity to learn floorcraft (sharing a dance floor)
  • Fun and socialising!

When you add Arthur Murray's dance parties into the mix of group and private dance lessons, you get a balanced structure that offers the best of all worlds.
