Get your friends onto the dance floor

Get your friends onto the dance floor

Stuck for a Hens or Bucks night idea that doesn’t involve strippers and novelty straws that would make your grandmother blush?

You can’t go wrong with a beginners Latin dancing class, followed by a night out on town, where your friends can put their moves to the test in some of Sydney’s best clubs, while fuelled by some liquid courage. This is probably one of the best ways to unwind before your big day.

Here are some clubs you could try:

Every Wednesday night, from 8:30pm

The Argyle, 18 Argyle St, The Rocks

Maloneys Hotel – every Wednesday night

81 Goulburn St Sydney

The Establishment – every Tuesday night

252 George St Sydney

La Gozadera – Latin dancing every second Saturday (first and third week of the month)

Bridal party dance classes

No doubt you’ve seen the videos of bridal parties stealing the show by putting on an epic dance that gets everyone on their feet.

Why not perform your own routine that wows your guests? You could round up your bridesmaids and groomsmen and take a professional class together, if you want your family and friends to be raving about the entertainment for weeks.

Even if this isn’t what you have in mind, there are other benefits to taking dance classes.

Wedding planning can be a stressful business, for everyone involved, including your bridal party. Booking your crew in for a dance class could be a fun way to thank everyone for their help, while squeezing in some physical activity to help fight any tension that’s creeping into your big day.

Research shows that dancing raises your heart rate and releases feel-good endorphins and serotonin into your bloodstream. It also lowers cortisol levels, which helps you feel less stressed.

Did you know that dancing can be more effective at boosting your mood, compared to exercising alone? This could have something to do with moving to music, which activates the brain’s pleasure circuits. It allows us to reconnect with our bodies, which is something we rarely do these days!

Taking a dance class is the perfect way for your groomsmen and bridesmaids to bond before they cross paths down the aisle, especially if they don’t know each other well. There’s a certain magic to dancing in sync with other people. In fact, research shows it can help you feel more connected and foster friendships. Dancing is all about synchronisation, which helps people to feel as though they’re one with the wider group, on a subconscious level.

Why not try a class at Arthur Murray?

We were interested in learning Tango for our daughter's wedding last year, but here we are in our second year at AM, Crows Nest - dancing has now become our passion, due in large part, to the excellence of teaching and supportive atmosphere of this studio! The journey is long and I so envy the folks who have started years ago to achieve the beauty and grace of ballroom and the seduction of Latin dancing. We are determined to continue !!!read more

We started dancing in 2009 for our wedding - and had so much fun learning that we kept it up. They have incredible flexibility to do as much as you want, on your schedule, and consist of staff that appreciate busy working (and family!) lives --- while encouraging you to always improve yourselves! As a couple learning they have accommodated both our learning styles very more
